Disney World-Cult

Just got back from Disney World in Orlando. What a cult of personality they have created there. It is something out of The Stepford Wives meets The Truman Show. What's the deal with all the cheery folks who only dream happy thoughts??? Of course, my little girl loved it and totally buys into it. When the end of innocence arrives, it will be a sad day. We were at Magic Kingdom for three solid days and that will wear anybody out. No more Minnie and Mickey please! Call me a cynic, but after 39 years on this earth, can you blame me?

Ian Astbury Most Underrated Singer

Ian Astbury of The Cult has got to be the most underrated rock singer over the past 25 years. The guy is a composite of Jim Morrison, Michael Hutchence and his own "Wolf Child" persona. Who else can channel Johnny Cash meets himself in "Holy Mountain" on their latest LP? Plus, his stage presence is an absolute primer for any wannabe singer that is currently starting out in the business. I first met Ian in 1987 at a defunct Mexican restaurant while he did an on air interview with Dallas, Texas Q102 Radio Redbeard. It was in the middle of the summer and about 100 degrees. He was wearing black leather pants and a wool longsleeve turtleneck and leather jacket. I sat at a little table with Redbeard, Ian and Billy Duffy. Of course, I brought my vinyl records and had them sign all of them. To this day I still have those and this story to tell. Plus, they were extremely cool and wanted to make sure that me and my friend Kenny were going to the concert that night. They were opening for Billy Idol on his Whiplash Smile Tour and this was at the final leg of their Electric Tour. Earlier in 1986, they played Dallas and their opening band was Guns 'N Roses. Of course, that would change in a matter of months. In the end, which band is still cranking out music and which one blew up and never did anything after the early 90's?

Tommy Lee?

I know this girl's mom and who is the guy with her?

The Eagles-Long Road Out Of Eden

I am listening to the new Eagles album-Long Road Out Of Eden. Quick thoughts: "It's Your World Now" sounds like a great tune. Glen Frey on vocals always underrated. Of course, you have the political themed stuff-Henley save our world titles. I like the cover shot of the desert. Is this where we are headed "meaning?" Still sounds very tricked up with the drum machine and the fact none of these guys were in the studio at the same time recording this. They did it all on digital and emailed it to the studio and put it together. No more soul in music. I like my music in the raw with some mistakes and forgotton chords/words from time to time. Still, I love my iPod and the modern toys to play music on. This is the trade off i guess.

4 Year Old Soccer Players

My daughter plays on a 4 year old soccer team. The coordination and common sense that you need to play soccer is not there yet. When I played, you had to be in 1st grade to start. Now, with the competition so strong, the earlier the better. this makes for some really bad soccer and confused kids who have no idea what they are doing. Of course, my wife is the enthusiastic screamer who constantly encourages the squid to go the right way and don't shoot on your own goal. After I tell the wife to calm down and quit being one of "those" parents, all she does is give me the "go to hell" look. Whatever?

Van Halen

What's the deal with David Lee Roth? After checking out all of the YouTube clips of their concerts, Dave seems extremely un athletic like the old days. I know he is 50+ now, but he still has the body that most 25 year old males would kill to have. What happened to the drum riser jump and splits to "Unchained?" Who gave him the cheesy top hat to wear for the same songs every night? Come on Dave, give me a ... you know the rest.
